A public discussion of the design of the new Washington Public Library drew roughly 40 people, last night, and the Seifert's buildings on the south side of the square were already buzzing this morning as citizens dropped in to help drive the project.
"We had a really good discussion. I'll bet you every one of those chairs was full," said OPN architect Bradd Brown, this morning, recalling last night's discussion that resulted in a building scheme.
Yesterday's progress will be tested, today, by the three architects who will determine whether last night's consensus scheme will accommodate public use and other design factors.
The public is still invited, today, to give its input to the project, which will result in a design direction that architects can work with to later formalize the building's plans. The Seifert's buildings, the future site of the downtown library, will be open until 8 p.m., tonight, and a wrap-up presentation will be held tomorrow at noon, just one hour before the Ridiculous Day parade is scheduled to start.
The presentation won't be a "full-blown account of how the architects studied and designed floor plan schemes, said architect Bruce Hammes. Rather, "We're more likely going to be discussing the results of the three-day process and how the public was instrumental in its development," he said.
Architect Heather Lynxwiler said. six people had already been through the Seifert's buildings by 8:30 this morning and several people yesterday visited repeatedly to check o the project's progress.
"It's really fantastic to see everybody here, she said.
